Genova's aquarium
With its 27,000 square meters, 70 tanks and over 12,000 animals of 600 different species, the Aquarium of Genoa is the largest exhibition of aquatic fauna in Europe.

The Aquarium of Genoa offers visitors the chance to discover underwater life in a journey among dolphins and sharks, penguins and manatees, jellyfish and seals, tropical fish and Antarctic animals.
“Inaugurated in 1992 on the occasion of the Colombian celebrations for the 500th anniversary of the discovery of America, the Aquarium of Genoa is a destination for more than a million visitors every year.”
The visitor is welcomed and projected into the captivating and unknown world of the Aquarium of Genoa, whose itinerary is organized into three sections with 40 large tanks, a faithful replica of underwater habitats. With its specimen included in a European conservation project involving about 20 structures, it is the only structure in Europe that grants the public the possibility of getting to know and admire the manatees, the so-called "sirens of the sea”.
Renzo Piano
The visit continues with the 4 open-air tanks of the Cetacean Pavilion (designed by Renzo Piano), which can be visited on two different levels, allowing the visitor to "dive" into the world of cetaceans while learning about the biology of the 8 species of Cetaceans that inhabit the Pelagos Sanctuary, the largest marine protected area of the Planet located at the very heart of the Mediterranean Sea..
The itinerary continues further with the 19 tanks of the Biodiversity Pavilion, housed inside the Nave Italia berthed at the Old Port. Nave Italia is a real ship redesigned with environments mainly dedicated to the Mediterranean Sea and to Madagascar, one of the countries with the highest concentration of endemic biodiversity in the world. This last section accommodates the large touch tank where the public can pet stingrays.
This visit makes it possible to fully experience the life of the aquarium, to discover the riches of the seas and the diverse aquatic environments of our Planet, to show the conservation and research projects that the structure is engaged in and to discover all the secrets and curiosities of a place where life is constantly renewed.
