Borges labyrinth

Updated: Jul 6, 2022

It's the most beautiful labyrinth in Italy with thousands of boxwood plants that cross and rise, forming an intricate path: it is the Borges labyrinth, a magical place located on the Island of San Giorgio in Venice.

The green of the leaves and the lawn, the cheerful chase of colorful butterflies, the scent of freshly cut grass. And yet a melody, which fills the ears and accompanies you along a mysterious path: 3,200 boxwood trees create an intricate labyrinth with a single way out. The road, admitting not to get lost, is a walk of about one kilometer.

“This labyrinth that has been created here in Venice, because Venice was one of Borges' most loved or most loved cities, is a labyrinth city, it is a unique city of subtle and wonderful delicacy and complexity, with an equally wonderful”.

The Borges Labyrinth was built by the Cini Foundation based on a project by the English architect Randoll Coate, in homage to the writer from Buenos Aires and on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of his death. The labyrinth is a tribute to Borges's work The garden of forking paths, one of the most evocative stories of the writer, who developed it just as if it were a mysterious and intricate enigma, a "literary labyrinth" whose theme is time and whose ultimate meaning is revealed only at the end.

The Labyrinth can be visited every day except Wednesday, and to access it it will be necessary to book a visit on the website www.visitcini.com.
